Bingo for Kids: Making It Educational and Fun

Children love games, and bingo is one of the easiest to adapt for educational purposes. Whether you're teaching number recognition to kindergartners or running a review session for middle schoolers, bingo can be tailored to almost any learning objective.

Bingo for Preschool and Kindergarten (Ages 3–6)

At this age, bingo is best used for basic number and letter recognition.

  • Number bingo: Use numbers 1–20 on simplified cards. Call numbers slowly and hold up visual representations.
  • Alphabet bingo: Cards with letters instead of numbers. Call a letter and ask children to find it on their card.
  • Picture bingo: Cards with simple drawings (animals, fruits, shapes). Call the word and show a picture.

Keep games short (5–10 minutes), use large cards with big numbers/images, and reward all participants with stickers or small treats.

Bingo for Elementary School (Ages 7–12)

  • Multiplication bingo: Call "7 times 6" — students find 42 on their card
  • Spelling bingo: Say the definition, students spell the word and look for it
  • Geography bingo: Cards with country names, capitals, or flags
  • Science bingo: Vocabulary terms from current science units

Bingo for Middle and High School (Ages 12–18)

  • History bingo: Dates, events, key figures
  • Literature bingo: Character names, quotes, plot points
  • Math bingo: Algebra solutions, geometry terms, formulas
  • Language bingo: Foreign language vocabulary or conjugations

Using Funny Bingo with Kids

For standard number bingo with children, Funny Bingo is perfect:

  • The voice announcer keeps kids' attention
  • The visual ball display is easy to see on a smartboard
  • Patterns like Letter H, Letter T, and Plus Sign are visually memorable for kids
  • Auto-call mode frees the teacher to circulate and help students

Making It a Positive Experience

  • Always give a participation reward alongside the winner's prize
  • Run multiple short rounds rather than one long game
  • Let kids take turns being the caller — great for public speaking
  • Use themed bingo for holidays and special occasions
