Bingo Superstitions: Lucky Charms, Rituals, and Myths

Walk into any bingo hall and you'll find players with trolls on their tables, specific dauber colors they swear by, and seats they've sat in for years. Bingo superstitions are as old as the game itself — and while they have no effect on the random draw, they're part of what makes the bingo community so colorful and fun.

Lucky Seats

Many regular players have a specific seat they consider lucky and will arrive early just to claim it. Some believe seats near the center of the hall attract winning energy; others prefer seats near exits for "good flow." The reality is that seat position has zero effect on outcomes — but the confidence boost a lucky seat provides might help players stay focused.

Lucky Daubers and Colors

Dauber color superstitions vary by region. In some bingo communities, green daubers are considered lucky because green represents money and good fortune. Red is avoided by some players who associate it with bad luck. Many players use the same dauber for months or years, refusing to replace it after a big win.

Lucky Charms and Talismans

The troll doll is perhaps the most famous bingo lucky charm. Originating in the 1990s at North American bingo halls, players would line up small troll dolls on their tables for luck. Other popular charms include:

  • Four-leaf clovers
  • Rosary beads or religious figures
  • Lucky coins or tokens
  • Stuffed animals gifted by loved ones
  • Crystals and gemstones

Pre-Game Rituals

  • Arriving exactly the same number of minutes early each session
  • Arranging cards in a specific order
  • Touching each card before the game begins
  • Saying a specific phrase or prayer before play

The Number 7

Seven is universally considered the luckiest number in bingo. Players who mark B-7 early in a game often take it as a sign the session will go well. Conversely, some players consider 13 unlucky and feel uneasy when it's called.

The Reality

Bingo is purely random — no charm, ritual, or seat position affects the outcome. But superstitions serve a psychological function: they give players a sense of control and comfort in an uncertain game, which makes the experience more enjoyable. Embrace your lucky charm — just don't rely on it!
