Bingo Lingo: The Complete Glossary of Bingo Terms

Every game has its own language, and bingo is no exception. Whether you're new to the game or hosting your first event, knowing the terminology will help you communicate clearly and feel confident at the caller's station.

A

Auto-call: A feature (available in Funny Bingo) that automatically draws and announces the next ball at a set interval, without needing the host to click manually.

B

Ball: A numbered sphere (1–75 in standard bingo) drawn from the ball pool. Also refers to the number itself ("Ball 23 was called").

Blackout / Coverall: A winning pattern where every number on the card must be marked. The hardest and longest pattern to complete.

BINGO: The exclamation made by a player who has completed the required pattern. Also the name of the game.

C

Caller: The person (or application) that draws numbers and announces them to players.

Card / Ticket: The grid players use to track called numbers. Standard 75-ball cards are 5×5 grids.

Coverall: See Blackout.

D

Dauber: An ink-filled marker used to blot called numbers on a paper bingo card. Also called a "dobber" in some regions.

Dead card: A card that can no longer win in the current round (all remaining numbers needed have already been called without a win).

F

Free Space: The center square on a standard 5×5 bingo card, which is automatically marked for all players at the start of each game.

Full House: In 90-ball bingo, completing all numbers on a single ticket. Equivalent to Blackout in 75-ball.

H

Hardway Bingo: A line bingo won without using the free space. Considered more difficult and sometimes earns a larger prize.

House: Another word for "Bingo" — calling "House!" indicates a win (more common in UK bingo).

M

Master Board: The display showing all numbers called so far in a game. In Funny Bingo, it's the 5×15 grid tracking every ball.

P

Pattern: The specific arrangement of squares that must be marked to win a round. Funny Bingo includes 15 patterns.

Progressive jackpot: A prize that grows each round until it's won, often tied to a Blackout pattern within a limited number of calls.

R

Regular game: A standard bingo round with a defined pattern (not Blackout).

S

Speed bingo: A fast-paced variant using 30 balls and a 3×3 card. Games last only a few minutes.

Strip: In 90-ball bingo, a set of 6 tickets that together contain all 90 numbers exactly once each.

W

Wild number: A called number that allows players to mark all numbers ending in that digit on their card (e.g., Wild 3 lets you mark 3, 13, 23, 33, 43, 53, 63, 73). Used in some special game variants.
